I realized a day after shooting Simon and Fiona’s full day customary wedding that I have got to get started on a strict physical training regime to stay fit. My fingers, especially my thumb still hurts as I type this. My lower back haven’t stop groaning about the 3-4kgs of equipment I carried all day long. Guess staying fit will be my number one resolution for the New Year!

Incidentally, Simon was my “keep fit” basketball game kaki until personal and work commitment forced us to disband temporary. As for Fiona, I only get to know her when the couple acted as MCs for a mutual friend’s wedding a few years back. Though their wedding day activities are jammed packed and cover multiple locations, the activities themselves are rather mild.

I am one that never stops to be amazed by what can happen in a wedding and Simon and Fiona big day created a few “first”. More about that later.

Without further delay, let me present the highlights of the day

Going through few tough weeks at work, I finally got the opportunity to do the things I like most again … wedding photography!

Deli and Jaclyn is a lovely couple that I met up recently at a friend’s studio. Unlike most couples I have met, they don’t have a lot of questions but that’s certainly not required. Tagging along was their family members whom fired off the first salvo followed by a barrage of questions. That’s nothing uncommon as it always to set the expectations right from the start.

On the actual day, the 2hrs shoot stretched to nearly 3hrs covering the exchange of vow and rings followed by a lunch reception and a short photo shoot at pool side. One good point that I observed was the excellent and prompt services from Marriott Singapore, especially from this particular young chap (who seem to be the floor manager).

Here are some photos, covering some of the highlights of the event.

An instant sense of deja vu overwhelmed me as I stepped into The Sentosa Singapore, Beaufort Hotel main lobby last Saturday. I can vividly recalled visiting this place (what was formally known as Beautfort Sentosa) in my younger days with my then girlfriend (now known as wife … grin). The name changed , but the place/structure doesn’t and it brings back beautiful memories.

Anyway I was here to shoot the solemnization of Roy and Sheila at the lovely Ginger Cinnamon Terrace, an assignment I have undertaken from an associate’s studio. The romatic setting allows the couple to hold their soplemnization in the garden lawn beside a beautiful pavilion under the watching eyes of their family and friends.

For fellow photographers out there, The Ginger Cinnamon Terrace faces the South China Sea and can be an absolute nightmare to shoot with the fast changing sky line. Here are some photos from the event. Enjoy.

I was tossing around the bed with great discomfort and thinking to myself “shit, 4th day still got fever”! I decided to wake up early due to the unbearable heat. My alarm clock indicates fiften mintues pass six am. With thermometer under my arm pit, I walked towards the bathroom, switch on the light and “arghhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh”.

With a mild fever and rash covered hands, I frantically search through my camera bag; “two cameras – yes, two flashes – yes, lenses – yes, batteries+CF – yes, two Kevin – NO“. With every corner of my body, face, hand, leg covered with rashes, a 12noon ROM shoot on hand and the thought that i may have dengue fever, I decided to initate “Exercise Save Kevin + Kevin’s Client”. Darrel, a fellow photographer i have known since Uni days became my savour. Thanks Darrel.

Now 4 days later, I have no fever, no rash but two tubes of blood less. Thanks goodness it’s not dengue and thanks Ivan and Zane for being so understanding.

My 1st meet up with Gilbert and Radiah was at Compass Point KFC way back in February. Other than getting a confirmation of my service, I parted with the thought that I will be adding to my portfolio, my 1st groom with shoulder length hair!

Time flies and with great anticipation, I arrived at the Mandai Orchid Garden on the 25th of May to a serene surrounding of lush greenery and beautiful orchids. I must admit that this location brings a very special experience to the guests and wedding couple with total freedom to explore and roam around. This is a lovely location for couples who love the great outdoor.

Anyway, the heavy downpour didn’t dampen the mood any bit, plus Gilbert and Radiah and their group of playful friends was great fun to work with. And did i mentioned that i added to my portfolio, that of a clean cut boyish groom and a beautifully bride. No ”long hair” groom portfolio for me … enjoy the photos.

“Children @ Weddings”. Did i hear fellow photographers scream in horror or smile in delight! Well, I believe it’s almost a fair dose of both but let me share with you my horror and laughter on children at weddings.
Well, the good part first. Children, other than being good photography subject, are a good form of entertainment when the going is slow. This is especially true for those between the age of 2-4yrs old. I think fellow photographers out there will agree with me. Right?

On the other hand when their going is slow and they start sourcing around for “entertainment”, then it’s trouble time for us! Fancy some “touch that len and leave my finger print playtime”? That is a big no no especially those who hang their 2nd camera behind them … these little monsters will zoom in and wack the clear clean glass out of your life. Arrrrrrgh …

Tell me which groom wouldn’t be worry sick for over sleeping or missing the perfect time to fetch their future wife-to-be on their big day? All grooms do. Right?

For Daniel, i guess it really eats into him. His situation is different. His wife-to-be Phyon is across the Causeway and need i mentioned it happens to be Malaysia Polling day and with the great escape artistic Mas Salamet somewhere out there …

Anyway I wasn’t surprise when he changed the meet up time twice, each time 15mins eariler. To cut the story short, here are some photos from the ground … traffic jams (from dawn to day break).

Did Daniel make it? Of course he made it. With a little help from his buddies and his wonderful singing, he managed to get to his future wife with little resistance!

The trip back to Singapore was smooth sailing, with enough time for the groom and bride to head home to their newly renovated home before going for church service at Wesley Methodist Church.

The trip back to Johor was smooth with about an hour to spare for ah-hoc photo shoot. Dunga Bay (hope i got it correct!) was the perfect choice as it was near the restaurant.
