I realized a day after shooting Simon and Fiona’s full day customary wedding that I have got to get started on a strict physical training regime to stay fit. My fingers, especially my thumb still hurts as I type this. My lower back haven’t stop groaning about the 3-4kgs of equipment I carried all day long. Guess staying fit will be my number one resolution for the New Year!

Incidentally, Simon was my “keep fit” basketball game kaki until personal and work commitment forced us to disband temporary. As for Fiona, I only get to know her when the couple acted as MCs for a mutual friend’s wedding a few years back. Though their wedding day activities are jammed packed and cover multiple locations, the activities themselves are rather mild.

I am one that never stops to be amazed by what can happen in a wedding and Simon and Fiona big day created a few “first”. More about that later.

Without further delay, let me present the highlights of the day

Who is she? Kampong Lorong Buangkok – the last surviving village in mainland Singapore, located not far from famous Jalan Kayu’s roti prata joint and surrounded by modern living.

After months of talking and hearing about Kampong Lorong Buangkok, I finally got my brother-in-law cum photography kaki to explore it on a less than ideal Saturday morning. The sky was dark and threatening when we arrived but with good grace, we had about 45mins of photo taking session before the sky poured heavily. As we ran out of the village, the mosquito buzzed past us, loaded with buckets of assumptions adult male blood!

Here are some photos I took during my trip.

Recently I polled fellow photographers who don’t already own a macro len. Most would agree that “having a macro len may help them to nail that detail shoot”. Detail shoots refers to photos such as the lovely rings that fills the whole frame (not that the rings or encrusted diamonds are getting samller in this current economic downturn)!

My first encounter with using a macro len was a borrowed Tamron 90mm Macro some years back. Good as its review was, I didn’t like it as it “hunt” too much. Little did I know that macro is usually used in manual mode and that the depth of field is often so shallow, most of the time you got to dial up your f stop.

Being wiser this time, I rented a Nikon 105mm macro and had some fun. Here’s some photos.

Going through few tough weeks at work, I finally got the opportunity to do the things I like most again … wedding photography!

Deli and Jaclyn is a lovely couple that I met up recently at a friend’s studio. Unlike most couples I have met, they don’t have a lot of questions but that’s certainly not required. Tagging along was their family members whom fired off the first salvo followed by a barrage of questions. That’s nothing uncommon as it always to set the expectations right from the start.

On the actual day, the 2hrs shoot stretched to nearly 3hrs covering the exchange of vow and rings followed by a lunch reception and a short photo shoot at pool side. One good point that I observed was the excellent and prompt services from Marriott Singapore, especially from this particular young chap (who seem to be the floor manager).

Here are some photos, covering some of the highlights of the event.

An instant sense of deja vu overwhelmed me as I stepped into The Sentosa Singapore, Beaufort Hotel main lobby last Saturday. I can vividly recalled visiting this place (what was formally known as Beautfort Sentosa) in my younger days with my then girlfriend (now known as wife … grin). The name changed , but the place/structure doesn’t and it brings back beautiful memories.

Anyway I was here to shoot the solemnization of Roy and Sheila at the lovely Ginger Cinnamon Terrace, an assignment I have undertaken from an associate’s studio. The romatic setting allows the couple to hold their soplemnization in the garden lawn beside a beautiful pavilion under the watching eyes of their family and friends.

For fellow photographers out there, The Ginger Cinnamon Terrace faces the South China Sea and can be an absolute nightmare to shoot with the fast changing sky line. Here are some photos from the event. Enjoy.

Flipping the newspaper this evening, I realized that there is only 1 race left in this year Formula Grand Prix. My mind immediately raced back to the Singapore F1 photos buried deep in my hard disk folders! Anyway let’s do a flashback before i publish my photos …

Approximately 8yrs ago I was in Melbourne studying for my Degree. My fellow University mates, persuaded me without success to part with A$300+ (can’t remember clearly) to watch a once in a life time F1 race at Albert Park, Melbourne. I have two reasons for not going, firstly as a student A$300+ was a lot of money and secondly i was thinking “what’s so great about few cars racing each other?”. I was partially wrong but my friends were wrong too because they told me that “F1 will never come to Singapore!”.

With great fortune, a close friend of mine invited me to attend the F1 qualifying race on the 27th September 2008. I rejected the offer initially but changed my mind once i found out that our seats were located at the pit grand stand! Anyway to cut a long story short, the action and atmosphere was great and i felt in love with hot burning tyres, thunderous engine noise and hot babes. On the flipside, an $8 coke (can) and $12 burger are something that i will complaint about for a long time. Saving the best for last, here are some photos i took during that night.

p/s: I fell in love with F1 but still will NOT spend S$300 on a ticket. Any sponsor for next year?
